Governor Ted Kulongoski of Oregon established an Advisory Group on Global Warming to advise him on climate mitigation strategies for Oregon. The Advisory Group has requested scientists from the Pacific Northwest to review the status of climate change research, focusing on impacts in the Pacific Northwest.
In response, the Institute for Natural Resources at OSU helped organized the Impacts of Climate Change on the Pacific Northwest meeting. This one-day, by-invitation-only meeting offered scientists an opportunity to 1) share knowledge concerning the present status of global climate change research and State and regional efforts for greenhouse gas reduction, 2) share findings on scenarios for climate change and possible impacts in the Pacific Northwest, and 3) identify areas of consensus and uncertainty. Sixty-five people attended this event, including members of Advisory Group on Global Warming, along with agency staff who provide technical support to the Advisory Group. The outcomes of the meeting will be used to help the Advisory Group understand the state of our knowledge and uncertainty regarding climate change so that they can recommend effective policies and investments to the Governor.
Staffing assistance was provided by OSU's Department of Zoology. OSU's College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences and College of Science funded the symposium. Webpage support is provided by OSU Libraries.
